The IC693CPU363, a controller from GE Fanuc’s Series 90-30 Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) lineup, serves as the core of industrial control systems. Its primary responsibilities include executing user programs stored in its memory and managing communication interactions with compatible devices—such as programming workstations, Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, databases, and third-party hardware.

Powered by an 80386EX processor running at 25 MHz, the IC693CPU363 delivers a typical scan rate of 0.22 milliseconds per 1K of Boolean logic. It features 240KB of embedded memory, internally partitioned to support various registers and built-in functions. As a single-slot module, it can oversee up to eight baseplates in total, including the local baseplate where the controller itself is installed, and supports up to seven remote or distributed I/O units.

A key strength of the IC693CPU363 lies in its versatile communication capabilities, enabled by three built-in serial ports. Two of these ports are directly integrated into the CPU module: one with an RJ45 interface and the other with a 15-pin sub-D connector, both compatible with RS232 and RS485 communication standards. The third is a tertiary RS485 port located on the power supply, accessible via the hinged door on the power supply’s right front and fitted with a 15-pin D-type female connector.

These ports operate independently (supporting simultaneous configuration) to facilitate multiple tasks: downloading/uploading user programs, performing commissioning, fine-tuning programs, and communicating with visualization components. Protocol support varies by port: the power supply-mounted port supports SNP/SNP-X slave protocols (ideal for connecting to PCs with programming software or GE Fanuc hand-held programmers), while Ports 1 and 2 handle SNP/SNP-X master/slave and RTU slave protocols. For expanded connectivity, the controller is compatible with optional communication modules, including Ethernet, FIP, Profibus, GBC, GCM, and GCM+.

The IC693CPU363 also offers practical functional enhancements: it supports the periodic subroutine feature, includes both user RAM and flash memory (the latter for storing CPU firmware), and provides floating point math capability when running firmware Release 9.0 or later.
